I was born in St. John’s Newfoundland, in 1963 and raised in the small community of Salmonier in St. Mary’s Bay. I attended school there and later went on to receive an arts degree at Acadia University.
My influences include not only fashion photography and haute couture as seen in fashion magazines, but also vintage ribbons, bolts of fabric and tiny wooden drawers filled with buttons. Even paint chips at hardware stores and colour-coded files at the doctor’s office inspire me. Good music makes me want to paint. Watching the creativity in others makes me want to paint and, of course, I would be nowhere without my female friends who inspire me daily.
I live with my two children, Philip and Peter Wangersky, in St. Philip’s Newfoundland. They are a constant source of joy and fatigue. I would have it no other way.
My seventh show at the Emma Butler Gallery opened on Oct 24, 2008. While I am represented in Newfoundland and Labrador by Emma Butler Gallery, I am also represented by Trinity Galleries in Saint John, New Brunswick.
